Laura Finley earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from Western Michigan University in 2002. Since then, she has taught sociology, criminology, education and women’s studies courses at colleges and universities in Michigan, Colorado, and Florida. She is currently Assistant Professor of Sociology & Criminology at Barry University. Dr. Finley is the author or co-author of ten books and numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles. She is also a community activist for peace, justice, and human rights. She is a local group coordinator for Amnesty International, co-sponsor of the College Brides Walk, and co-chair of the South Florida Diversity Alliance. Dr. Finley serves on the boards of No More Tears, UN Women East Florida chapter, and Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty. She also serves as K-12 Education Liaison for the Peace and Justice Studies Association. Prior to her work in higher education, Dr. Finley was a high school social studies teacher.
